Background: It was at the crucial juncture when Nagaland got introduced with an epidemic of drug addiction and is on the rise, an organization namely, Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre (BYWC) came into existence. It was established with the objective to curb the epidemic and bring the situation under control. Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, a Pioneer Registered De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in North-East India, is established in the year 1987 of September. It has completed its 15 (fifteen) years of existence of facilitating multifarious Social Transformation Activities with special emphasis on the Chemically Dependent people and their Co-dependents. It is committed for the upliftment of the unfortunate Drug Addicts and Alcoholics to the mainstream of life. During the last 15 years of its existence, the centre has detoxified and rehabilitated hundreds of wayward young adults and youths from the bondage of Drug Addiction and Alcoholism. The centre had also provided a number of Awareness counselling sessions to thousands of Drug Abusers and their co-dependents in and around Dimapur and other parts of Nagaland as well. HIV / AIDS and Women & Children programs were also incorporated in the year 1996 and was registered under Society Registration Act XXI of 1860, and was amended vide Nagaland (First amendment) Act 1969, Government of Nagaland with a registration No. RS 3054, DT. 5.2.88. It’s headquarter is situated in the heart of Dimapur Town
Objective:
- To create a situation whereby the spread of HIV/AIDS among the targeted IDUs could be controlled.
- To improve the quality of life by enhancing awareness level about HIV/AIDS and related issues among the IDUs/ DUs/ General Population.
- To deal with the attitude of IDUs with respect to use of safer method of injection/condom and bring the targeted to the Harm Reduction Program.
