Target Population: Injecting Drug User & Female Sex Workers

Background:
The project   covers  1. Ukhrul Town, 2. Kamjong Block, and 3. Sinakeithei Cluster. The last PSA enumerated 990 IDUs in Ukhrul Block and 348 IDUs in Kamjong Block. Sinakeithei cluster was not covered in the last PSA. Till 30th January 2007 the project has registered 846 IDUs in Ukhrul Town, 270 IDUs in Kamjong and 221 IDUs in Sinakeithei. .As such, a total of 1337 IDUs have been registered during 2006-2007. As per the District AIDS Committee there are 3500 IDUs in Ukhrul district
The project will help IDUs of the above mentioned project areas and will continue to provide services like NSEP, Condoms promotion, counselling, Abscess/STI treatment, referrals service, Group events, Recreational facilities, home visits, parents meeting, STI/HIV education etc.
Trainings and workshops given by the ORCHID like proposal writing, STI/Abscess treatment, outreach, Financial mgt., IPC, Counselling, OD mgt., safer practices, DST program, monitoring visits etc have contributed a lot to  strengthen the capacity of the organization. In course of time staff members by experimenting practically with what they have learnt in the trainings and capacitation programmes have enable them to implement the program more effectively.

Objective:

• To reduce the risk of HIV transmission among 1200 IDUs in Ukhrul Town and Sinakeithei both in Ukhrul Central Block and Kamjong Block, Ukhrul district, Manipur
• To prevent sexual transmission of HIV/STI among 1200 IDUs in Ukhrul Town and Sinakeithei both in Ukhrul Central Block and Kamjong Block, Ukhrul district, Manipur
