Background:
Since the inception of the Project ORCHID the capacity of the organization has been considerably improved in all aspects of program development, implementation and management.  With various trainings received from Project ORCHID and cross cutting partners of AVAHAN the organization has now the capacity to develop its own program. In fact, it had recently been awarded a TB-HIV grant pilot project from Open Society Institute which was quite a competitive grant process. All the staffs have also improved in a significant manner as they have been constantly trained not only by Project ORCHID but also by other cross cutting partners.  The new skills such as interpersonal communication; community led structured intervention; web based reporting have been developed. New techniques on trainings based on competencies have also ensured improved skills of the program staffs.  The technical inputs that have been given during nurses trainings have also greatly enhanced the skills and knowledge of not only the nurses but also for the entire project team. Nurses are now able to handle any STIs with confidence and without any hesitation. The exposure trip had also helped and expanded the knowledge and scope of the Project Coordinator. The Sonagachi project in Kolkata and various projects of Care Bangladesh in Dhaka have given lots of inspiration especially in the field of sex workers intervention program.  The Chief Functionary has also been considerably improved with his management skills and also in other areas such as in rapid assessments. The trainings on PSA by Project ORCHID have facilitated him in conducting two major PSAs that also included a new sub population in Bishnupur and Imphal districts.

Objective:

• To prevent HIV transmission through injecting drug use among 800 IDUs in 46 villages & 6 urban towns of Bishnupur, District, Manipur.
• To prevent sexual transmission of HIV/STI among 800 IDUs, 1200 SWs and their sexual partners in 46 villages & 6 urban town of Bishnupur District, Manipur.
